Privacy policy
I am Heather Maisner and I publish Dinosaur Douglas Books. This page explains what information I hold about you, why, and what you can do about it. Last updated 22 October 2026.
The short version
If you have given me your email address by emailing me, buying books from this website or showing an interest in Dinosaur Douglas Books, rest assured that I am looking after your data responsibly and do not share it with anyone else except the services I need to fulfil your order. You can email me at any time to have your details removed.
What I collect and why
- Orders. When you buy books, I receive your name, delivery address, email address and, if you give it, phone number, together with what you bought. I need these to post your books, send your receipt and deal with any problem. Payment is taken by PayPal; I never see your card details. PayPal processes your payment data under its own privacy policy.
- Enquiries. When you use a contact, bulk order or author visit form, or email me, I receive what you send and my email account keeps it, so I can reply.
- Your basket. The books you add to your basket are stored in your own browser, not on my server, until you check out.
- Analytics. Only if you agree to it, this site uses Google Analytics to show me which pages are read. If you choose essential only, no analytics cookie is set. You can change your mind at any time from the cookie settings link in the footer.
- Videos. A few pages embed a YouTube video. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play; once you do, YouTube's privacy-enhanced player applies YouTube's own privacy policy.
- Server logs. The hosting company keeps standard web server logs for security, which include IP addresses, for a short period.
Lawful basis
Orders are processed to perform a contract with you. Enquiries are processed in my legitimate interest of replying to people who contact me. Analytics runs only with your consent. Order records are kept because tax law requires it.
Who else sees your data
PayPal, to take your payment. Royal Mail, to deliver your parcel. My email provider and web host, who store the messages and orders. Google, only if you consent to analytics, and YouTube, only if you press play on an embedded video. I do not sell or share your details with anyone else and I do not send marketing emails unless you have asked for them.
How long I keep it
Order records are kept for six years, as HMRC requires. Enquiries are kept for as long as they are useful for replying to you and then deleted. Analytics data is retained by Google for the shortest period it allows.
Your rights
You can ask me what data I hold about you, ask me to correct it or delete it, and object to how I use it. Email heathermaisner@yahoo.co.uk and I will respond as soon as I can, and within one month. If you are unhappy with my answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Security
This site is served over HTTPS. Order details are stored on the web host in a database that is not publicly accessible, and payment is handled entirely by PayPal.
A note from Heather
The rules on data protection are designed for large organisations; small independent author-publishers like me are doing our best to keep up. If you understand this better than I do and believe there is something else I should be doing, please tell me. I value the security of your information and will never intentionally breach the rules.
