Author visits and workshops
Heather is happy to arrange creative writing sessions, readings and talks for nurseries, primary schools, libraries, universities and events. She works with children from age three upwards, with trainee teachers and with adults, in London, Norfolk and further afield, including internationally.
What a visit can include
Readings and story time
A Dinosaur Douglas reading with the Big Book, a chance to chant the rhymes and a conversation about brushing, washing, sunshine or feelings.
Creative writing workshops
Heather has taught creative writing to children for years, including as Author in Residence at two Hammersmith primary schools. Workshops are shaped to the year group.
Talks and Q and A
How a book is made, from the first idea to the printed copy, told by an author who has also been an editor, translator and publisher.
Teacher training
Sessions for trainee teachers and early years practitioners on using picture books to teach health and wellbeing, drawing on her work at the University of Hertfordshire and Queen Mary’s College.
The practical bits

- Fees: quoted on enquiry, depending on the session, numbers and travel. Books can be supplied for the day at bulk prices.
- Safeguarding: Heather is an experienced school visitor and will follow your setting's procedures.
I was really impressed with the way the children were able to connect to the books, even about something as complex as vitamin D. The discussions that resulted were really fruitful. The themes, covering healthy lifestyle choices, are unlike any that I have been able to find for children in a fictional text, so I found it really useful.
